Additional Resources

Curriculum Center

Curriculum guides are designed to help teachers prepare for their Tacoma Art Museum school tours, but the resources and pre- and post-visit activities included in these guides may also be used independently of a museum visit. The guides available for download are located under the description of available school tours.

The Teacher Resource section of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Library provides a variety of resources for educators that allow you to incorporate art into your everyday lesson plans. Teacher Resources are aligned with Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and cover a wide array of topics from ancient to modern art. Resources are available for K-12 classrooms, including curriculum, videos, and books.

Teacher Resources may be reserved in advance and can be borrowed for up to two weeks. For more information or to register to use the Teacher Resources, please contact 253-272-4258 ×3024. As the Library is staffed entirely by volunteers, please call this number before visiting to ensure someone will be available to assist you.

Display Your Students’ Artwork

In collaboration with local schools and community organizations, the museum presents thematic displays of student artwork throughout the school year (September–June) in the Esther and Gene Grant and the Ben B. Cheney Foundation Art Classroom or the Murdock Charitable Trust Classroom. The exhibitions change four times per year and include annually recurring displays, student art competitions, and thematic responses to the exhibitions in the galleries.
