The Romantic Vision of Michael Brophy

October 8, 2005 – January 1, 2006

This exhibition presents the extraordinary work of Portland painter Michael Brophy, and explores the intersections of history, forest ecology, and the rich tradition of landscape painting. Through large-scale works that depict the brutal and savage beauty of the altered landscapes of the Northwest’s rivers, forests, and mountains, Brophy engages the social and political forces reshaping national dialogues that define environmental preservation and sustainability. A full-color catalogue published by University of Washington Press accompanies the exhibition, and is available for purchase in the Museum Store.
