Join us Thursday, March 31 at 6:00 pm for The Current Conversations | How We See Us: On the Refusal of Limitations on Black Creativity. Artist Award Manager Victoria Miles sits down with artist Tiffanny Hammonds for an intimate conversation about the history and complexities of the Black Aesthetic in art spaces. They share stories and insight about how the policing of Black art subjugates and relegates Black artists into creating works that focus on the particularities of their identity and politics. They take on questions and provide insight on what it looks like to liberate oneself from art spaces’ rigid definitions of black art—and begin to unravel the question of what it looks like to create space for Black artists’ personal articulations of their art, experience, and style.
Questions graciously written and provided by Dr. Jasmine Jahmillah Mahmoud.
