Intro to Natural Dyeing Textiles

Led by local fiber artist Kirsten Miller (she/her), this two-day (6-hour) course offers hands-on instruction in natural dyeing of cotton fabric. Students will learn essential techniques, including scouring, mordanting, and dyeing with plants. The course covers the entire process—from fabric preparation to creating vibrant, long-lasting color. Each participant will take home a hand-dyed bandana.

All materials will be provided. Please bring water, snacks, and clothing that can get messy.

The cost of this two-part workshop is $90.

About Kirsten Miller

Kirsten Miller (she/her) is a fiber artist and naturalist based in Tacoma, Washington. She earned a Master’s in Environmental Studies from The Evergreen State College in 2018. Kirsten currently works as an Aquatic Land Manager with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources in the Aquatics Program. Alongside her professional work, she teaches fiber arts—including natural dyeing and appliqué classes. She is also the lead organizer for the Tacoma and Olympia Craft Club and a co-founder of the Thurston County Museum of Fine Arts in Olympia.
