Experience L’Inferno (1911), Italy’s first full length film, with an original live score by Lori Goldston and Corey J. Brewer… a visionary landmark film that shaped the language of cinema from DeMille to Lynch. Acclaimed cellist and composer Goldston, who toured with Nirvana, appears on thier MTV Unplugged album, and has collaboraed with David Byrne, Cat Power, Terry Riley, Lynn Shelton, and many more, joins forces with musician Corey J. Brewer, whose score for the Shining Forwards and Backwards helped launch Portland Art Museum’s Tomorrow Theater in 2023. Together Goldston and Brewer imagine Italy’s first feature film as a spellbinding performance not to be missed.
Corey J. Brewer
In the Pacific Northwest of the 1990’s Corey J Brewer found himself studying violin in his middle school string ensemble, playing guitar in a punk band, running a cassette label and performing in free improvisation & harsh noise projects. In the following decades his musical output has been unified by a general disregard for genre boundaries and an affinity for the DIY ethos of the punk underground. He has composed and performed live scores for silent films at The Northwest Film Forum, The Beacon Cinema, The Frye Museum, The Capitol Theater in Olympia, Siff Cinema Egyptian & Portland Art Museum Tomorrow Theater.
Lori Goldston
Lori Goldston plays written, traditional and spontaneous work on cello, and works as a composer, teacher, bandleader, and prolific, widely varied collaborator. Classically trained and rigorously de-trained, her voice as a cellist is singular, deeply textured and original, investigating thresholds, instability, and connections between far-flung modes of thought. She lives in Seattle and performs in venues large and small throughout North America, Europe and Australia as a soloist and collaborator with composers, film makers, writers, theater directors, choreographers, visual artists, orchestras and bands including Earth, Nirvana, the BBC Scottish Symphony, Black Belt Eagle Scout, Helms Alee, Mirah, David Byrne, Terry Riley, Lonnie Holley, Trimpin, Stuart Dempster, Shelley Hirsch, Maya Dunietz, Ghedalia Tezartes, Senga Nengudi, Ellen Fullman, Lynn Shelton, and many, many others.
