Join us for a preview of The One-Two Punch: 100 Years of Robert Colescott, as we celebrate the centennial of the birth of esteemed artist Robert Colescott, and our newly dedicated permanent gallery space for The Current, An Artist Award.
Enjoy a lively evening with signature cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, art activities inspired by the exhibition, and live music from THADD and friends.
At 7 PM, we will welcome honored guests, Cooper Colescott and Alexander Colescott, sons of Robert Colescott, hear remarks from Rebecca and Jack Benaroya Curator, Victoria Miles, and unveil the exhibition.
Robert Colescott was known for his biting, satirical social commentary, vibrant palette, and exaggerated figuration. This monographic exhibition celebrates the timeless work of Colescott, examining his deeply critical art practice and the stylistic transformations across his career. With this presentation, The Current, An Artist Award celebrates Colescott’s lasting impact on Black visual culture as he continues to influence new generations of Black artists to pave their own ways forward.
Organized by Tacoma Art Museum and curated by Victoria Miles.
