Project NW: Eirik Johnson: Leviathan Rising

From his kayak Seattle photographic artist Eirik Johnson captures the massive hulls of trans-oceanic barges as they idle in the polluted waters of Seattle's Duwamish River. An exploration of oceanic trade, environmental fragility, and the hulking machinery that carries cargo through uncertain waters. Beneath these abstracted hulls, new architectural spaces emerge and a quiet vertigo sets in. The project also includes a series of luminous, silver-plated daguerreotype photograms of Japanese fishing floats, created in ongoing collaboration with artist Daniel Carrillo.
