Community Art Class: Painting Dynamic Narratives

Every painting holds the potential for a story—learn how to uncover and amplify yours in Painting Dynamic Narratives. This immersive workshop invites you to explore how light, color, and composition can transform your paintings into emotionally rich, visually compelling narratives.

Through guided exercises and group discussion, you’ll learn to:

  • Discover hidden stories in your existing sketches and materials
  • Use dramatic lighting and expressive color to heighten emotional impact
  • Combine landscapes, figures, and abstract elements to build layered visual stories

Whether you’re continuing from a previous class or joining for the first time, this session offers a welcoming space to experiment, share ideas, and grow your storytelling skills through painting.

What to Bring:

  • Sketchbook, pencils, pens, markers, or other preferred sketching tools
  • Photos, notes, doodles, or past sketches to use in exercises

Provided by TAM:

  • 8.5 x 11″ paper
  • Pens and pencils
  • Basic watercolor supplies

Britton Sukys is a Tacoma-based painter, illustrator, and cartoonist. His careers have included technical theatre, vascular imaging, and art. He has developed techniques over the past 30 years that can help you create the art you want to see in fun and effective ways.  He hopes to spark your imagination so you can create vivid, dynamic imagery.
Britton holds a BA in Imagination Implementation from The Evergreen State University.
