El Noroeste

September 23, 2023 - October 1, 2023

The El Noroeste exhibit was organized by Mi Centro and curated by Maribel Galvan, Director of Arts and Culture at Mi Centro. The opening reception featured special guest speaker Richard “Cheech” Marin.

Cheech is recognized today as a preeminent Chicano art advocate and co-founder of the The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture (The Cheech).

He once stated, “Chicano art is American art. My goal is to bring the term ‘Chicano’ to the forefront of the art world.” In the spirit of bringing Chicano/Latine art “to the forefront,” Mi Centro brought together a collection of multidisciplinary artists who, through their work, amplify, empower, and uplift their comunidad (community), and allow viewers to explore the intersectional identities, pain, celebration, love, familial (family) and deep cultural roots that are part of the beauty and diversity across our state.
