Building Maintenance Associate

Summary of Position

This position reports to the Building & Information Technology Manager and is part-time position. This works within the department on all aspects of facility upkeep. This includes painting, patching, cleaning and related needs. This position also acts as a backup to respond to after hours alarms, and provides support to MBS staff scheduled in the control room as needed. This position works closely with the Building Safety and Maintenance Lead and other museum staff to develop and enforce safety best practices. It is anticipated that the hours of work will be 20 hours per week, with a flexible schedule to accommodate needs as they arise.

Responsibilities

• Assists Building Safety and Maintenance Lead on regular maintenance program items and overall building and grounds upkeep
• Assists with custodial needs and general cleanliness of building and grounds
• Assists with light plumbing, electrical, and mechanical maintenance
• Responds to security and safety issues as they arise, this may include responding to afterhours security events
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Excellent customer service skills
• Team player; Possess the ability to in a collaborative manner with all TAM staff
• Ability to communicate effectively; both verbally and in writing
• Must demonstrate problem solving skills and clear decision making process
• Availability to work a schedule with hours that vary from week to week. Must work evening and weekend hours, as assigned
• High School diploma or equivalent
• WA Driver’s License is required
• Familiarity with computer systems, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word

Travel, Working Conditions, and Physical Environment

This job is physically demanding. Strength, agility, and endurance are all necessary to performing the core job functions.

The essential physical requirements of this position include:

• There is frequent need to stand, stoop or walk for long periods of time. Desk time is minimal.
• Frequently reaches with hands and arms and uses hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools, machinery, computers, and/or controls.
• Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 75 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday.
• Continuously exchanges information through listening and talking with staff, volunteers and individuals in the community;
• Some work may be performed outside where employee is subject to adverse weather conditions.
• Negligible local travel, less than 5% of work hours.
