Tacoma Art Museum’s art classes offer adults a chance to learn new techniques, practice core skills, and build connections through hands‑on workshops. From exploring color to developing expressive figures, each session encourages growth and community among people who want to keep creating.


Meditative Painting

Explore the fun and relaxing world of meditative watercolor. This mini-retreat will introduce artists of any level to techniques and tools to put the mind at ease. We’ll discuss the joy of moving paint around paper in a relaxed setting, and making space for creativity in our busy schedules.

Art Alternatives to Doomscrolling

Ever find yourself waiting for a friend at a coffee shop? Flight delayed and now you’ve got time to kill in an airport? Did you arrive too early at a restaurant, or the ferry dock? Put away the phone for a few minutes, and make some art instead! You don’t need a whole art studio to make some meaningful expression, either, you can use some simple tools to keep yourself thinking creatively.

These are your Art Alternatives to Doomscrolling! Six technique and idea ‘kits’ to help you be an artist wherever you have 10 minutes to be creative!” setting, and making space for creativity in our busy schedules.

Hand Embroidery and Sewing for Adults

Before sewing machines, embroidery was an art form done entirely by hand, passed down through generations to decorate household linens, garments, and heirlooms. This workshop connects students to that historical context. By practicing classic stitches, students will connect their hands to the mindful rhythm of the work, using embroidery as a tool for self-expression and relaxation.

En Plein Air Patio

Enjoy drawing and painting the unique and beautiful views of downtown Tacoma from Tacoma Art Museum’s Patio. Explore the dynamic urban landscape with watercolor and pencil with other artists. Join us for a rare opportunity to spend some time seeing
and painting the city from new angles!

We’ll set-up the water color paint, colored pencils and paper (or bring your own simple plein air kits/sketchbooks), and you bring your artist’s eye and sense of creative fun!
