TAM + Mi Centro // “El Noroeste” opening reception with Cheech Marin

Mi Centro and Tacoma Art Museum (TAM), with support from Tacoma Creates, were excited to present the “El Noroeste” art exhibition highlighting local Chicano/Latine art from across Washington State at TAM. The exhibition was on view from Saturday, September 23, until October 1, 2023. Here’s a recap of our opening reception!

“Cheech” Marin is recognized today as a preeminent Chicano art advocate. In the mid-1980s, he began developing  arguably the finest private collection of Chicano art. Much of it formed the core of his inaugural exhibition Chicano Visions: American Painters on the Verge, which broke attendance records during its groundbreaking 15-city tour during 2001-2007 to major art museums across the United States.
