Celebrate Youth Art Month

March is Youth Art Month! Youth Art Month was created in 1961 to emphasize the value of participating in visual arts education. Art is essential for the full development of better quality of life for all; it helps youth learn critical and creative thinking and build empathy. In addition to celebrating the visual arts, Youth Art Month programs advocate for public support of art education by communities, businesses, and governments.

Here at Tacoma Art Museum, we are passionate about youth arts engagement all year round. We believe all youth are artists, with the power to make meaning by viewing and creating works of art. By making art, youth can express the realities and possibilities of their communities, of society, and of the world. Our initiatives foster empathy and inspire youth to envision a more equitable world.

The 2020 Youth Art Month theme is “Take a Journey through Art.” Visitors of all ages can journey through art with TAM. You can explore art from different time periods, different media, and different perspectives in our online collection catalogue. Who knows what inspiration will strike you on your journey?
